#25: I found the joy
Let’s go girls! My day started with learning to play a Shania Twain song on the drums. This was before I knew it was International Women’s Day, but what a way to celebrate. Man, I feel like a woman when I’m crashing around on cymbals to my favourite songs.
Here are my latest attempts at making cool things.
Project complete!
I’ve been crocheting two sweet little bookworms for a primary school. I finished and posted them out this week.
It was an assembly line of green and blue. Their heads and eye positions came out slightly different to one another which could irk me, but it doesn’t. Am I growing beyond perfectionism?! It’s those differences that make them feel like two distinctive wormy characters.
Forgive the cheesy photo, but I was so chuffed I was to get these made. Now I’m heading back to working on the wonky blanket.
Daffodil season
The sun shone on my face today and I basked like a lizard. Flowers have popped up in the park, and they reminded me of these little spring paintings I made a couple of years ago.
In the park there’s a cafe, and I’m lucky to get to put some art on their walls. This week I’ll be making something new to go in there, and - spoiler alert - I think it’ll be floral. For spring?! No way! I’ll share what I come up with in my next letter.
An book about an umbrella
It’s bizarre how we can really want to finish a project/make a thing/achieve a goal, and yet making any progress on it feels SO HARD. I said ‘we’ because I know it isn’t just me…but I hope you can’t relate. I hope you just breeze through getting it all done and have a cake to celebrate afterwards.
It turns out if you allocate time to writing and illustrating the book that you want to exist, you make progress. And then you realise the big scary project is actually fun?? I’m working on a children’s book about an umbrella, and I found the joy in it again this week. I am DETERMINED to keep going with it. Do affirmations work? I feel more determined now just from typing that in caps.
Writing this weekly letter to you helps keep me accountable, so thank you for navigating these creative waves alongside me. More book updates to come!
How are you being creative at the moment? What gets in your way? I would love to hear all about it.
That’s my week in art! I hope yours has been a good one too <3
Thank you
It’s lovely that you’re here reading about the things I make. If you have any reflections or fancy a chat, leave a comment or hit ‘reply’. I love when these posts turn into a conversation. Wishing you a great week ahead.
